Australian soprano Caroline Wenborne, is a principal artist in the ensemble at the Vienna State Opera, where her roles have included Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte) and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni). Caroline can be heard as Gutrune (Die Götterdämmerung) on the Deutsche Grammophon Wagner’s Ring Cycle with Christian Thielemann, recorded at the Vienna State Opera in 2011. 

During the course of her engagement at the Staatsoper, Caroline’s performed and covered repertoire includes Mimi (La bohème), Countess (The Marriage of Figaro), Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito), Desdemona (Otello), Amelia (Simon Boccanegra), Alice Ford (Falstaff), Elisabetta (Don Carlo), Nedda (Pagliacci), Alcina (Alcina), Antonia (Les contes d'Hoffmann), Anna (Nabucco), Mascha and Chloe (Pique Dame), Marianne Leitmetzerin (Der Rosenkavalier), fünfte Magd (Elektra), Ein junges Mädchen (Moses and Aaron), Clothilde (Norma), Lora (Die Feen), Gerhilde (Premiere Die Walküre), Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Gutrune and Dritte Norn (Götterdämmerung - Premiere), Isotta (Die Schweigsame Frau), Karolka (Jenůfa), Berta (The Barber of Seville), Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes), Elsa (Lohengrin), Eva (Die Meistersinger), Elisabeth (Tannhaüser) and Strauss’ - 4 Last Songs (Ballet - Meistersignaturen). 

Caroline’s recent performances include Brahms Requiem at the Musik Verein and the roles of 4th Magd (Elektra), Marianne Leitmetzerin (Der Rosenkavalier) Gutrune (Götterdämmerung) Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte, live streamed on the internet), Emma in (Khovanschina, Mussorgsky), and Karolka (Jenufa) for the Vienna State Opera as well as Fiordiligi (Cosi fan tutte) for the Volksoper, Wien. Significant covers include Anna Bolena, Amelia Boccanegra, Elisabetta de Valois (Don Carlo), and Elsa (Lohengrin) for the Vienna State Opera. 

Caroline Wenborne made her debut at the Bayreuther Festspiele in the roles of Freia in Das Rheingold and Gerhilde in Die Walkure in the summer of 2016 and has subsequently been re-invited for the 2017 season.  Further engagements last year included Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito) at the Vienna State Opera, with Maestro Adam Fischer, and her first Beethoven 9th with Sinfonietta Baden in Baden. 

Caroline has performed with many distinguished conductors, including Seiji Ozawa, Daniele Gatti, Adam Fischer, Donald Runnicles, Franz Welser-Moest, Ivor Bolton, Peter Schneider, Marco Armiliato and Jeffrey Tate, Sir Simon Rattle in Die Götterdämmerung and Semyon Bychkov in the premiere of Khovanschina

A finalist in many of Australia’s leading singing competitions, including the Covent Garden Scholarship and the Metropolitan Opera Award, as the winner of the Opera Foundation Australia German Operatic Award in 2005, she became a member of the Cologne Opera Young Artists Studio during the 2005/06 season. 

In Australia Caroline’s engagements include Fiordiligi, Countess, Euterpe (Gluck’s Il Parnaso Confuso), and Donna Anna (with Victorian Opera) and concert works such as Stravinsky’s Les Noces, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem and Mozart Requiem

In 2014, Caroline became a member of “Das Wiener Graben” Ensemble, a Chamber group with String sextet, Harp and Voice, whose repertoire consists of Arias, Overture’s, and interludes from the Operatic repertoire. Performances have included appearances at Muth (the Wiener SängerKnaben Concert Hall) and the Musik Verein for the Wiener Philharmoniker Ball.
