Samuel Sakker steps in as Alfredo in ROH La traviata opening night on Saturday

Congratulations to Samuel for his wonderful performance with 3 hours notice to sing Alfredo in place of Albanian tenor Saimir Pirgu who had to withdraw due to a throat infection.

"...Sakker's pleasingly resonant tenor timbre is well suited to Alfredo, and as a cover he had all the moves under his skin" (whatsonstage)

"... the young Australian tenor gained confidence as the performance proceeded, cutting an authentically engaging figure as the ingénu lost amidst the giddy whirl of the mid-19th century Parisian demimonde". (The Guardian)

"...Sakker did exceptionally well, as over the evening he relaxed into the role and his pleasing voice really warmed to the task. If this is what he could do as Alfredo when stepping in at the last minute, I would love to see him play the part with a fuller preparation, and he will forever be able to look back with pride on the night that he saved a major performance at the Royal Opera House".
